Friday, February 7, 2014
Southington 47, Newington 39: The Knights and Indians had the late game of a doubleheader held at Southington High following the boys game. Southington got solid games from Natalie Wadolowski, Nicole Fischer and Maggie Meehan on its way to its 20th straight victory at home, dating back to the start of the 2012-2013 season.
“The kids have a lot of confidence at home,” Knights coach Mike Forgione said. “We are going to try and keep that streak going against a top 10 team (tonight).”
Southington will look to make it 21 straight tonight when it takes on 14-2 Farmington, which defeated the Knights 65-35 earlier this season.
Wadolowski scored 14 points to lead Southington past Newington Thursday. She finished with a double-double, hauling in 11 rebounds. Meehan had 11 points and six assists while Fischer scored 13 points.
Tonight’s game against Farmington will mark the third game in four nights for the Knights.
Newington’s Stasha Greenalch led all scorers with 18 points while Ashleigh Beauford had nine.
With the win, Southington is now 11-5 and the Indians drop to 9-7 on the season.
Northwest Catholic 74, Berlin 26: The Redcoats’ struggles continued Thursday night when they fell to Northwest Catholic. Alyssa Germano was the lone Berlin player to score in double-figures with 11 points.
