Swarming D leads to Girls Basketball victory

Newington has yet to lose a game and has won all but one of its contests by double-digit margins. On Tuesday, the team outdid itself once again.

Newington did not allow a single field goal in its 44-5 rout of Maloney, improving to 8-0 on the season in the process. All five of the Spartans’ points came off free throws.

As per usual, Newington used a team effort to fill up the score sheet with nine different players recording two points or more.

Madison Romanello led Newington with seven points, while pulling down five rebounds. Karissa Zocco and Brianna Gadarowski were next with four points with Lilly Ferguson, Marlie Zucco and Ella DePase scoring five points apiece. Arianna Barnes, meanwhile, contributed four steals.

Tuesday’s game might as well have been over at halftime.

Newington held a 22-0 lead at the break, which only jumped up to a 37-3 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Amal Bahili led Maloney with three points.
