Girls Basketball advances to CCC Finals

Led by double-doubles from Lilly Ferguson and Alexie Armour, Newington cruised past Southington in the CCC Championship Tournament semifinals 49-32 on Wednesday. Newington will host Windsor for the conference crown on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Ferguson, who transferred in from East Catholic, finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, while Armour scored 14 points herself and pulled down 13 boards as well. Teammate Madison Romanello also finished in double-figures with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Allison Carr led the Blue Knights with 11 points and Livvy Pizzitola contributed 10 points. They were the only two Southington players to score more than six.

The game was close up until halftime.

Newington held a five-point advantage at the end of the second quarter, but quickly asserted itself over the final 16 minutes of the game. The team outscored the Blue Knights 15-9 in the third quarter and 12-6 in the fourth.
